Yeah there was a planning app in to turn the upstairs of the vines into a hotel. that entire bit has (apart from the vines on one end and the crown on the other) been pulled down and a new building put up. Student digs and a hotel, same thing going up all over the city.

Re: Everton's new stadium
the vines had closed down when we was up for the Liverpool game in August .

I was at the infamous Grand National when the bomb scare emptied Aintree in minutes.

Remember getting back into town and holing up in the Adelphi Hotel bar. Place was chaotic - full of senior racing industry types who at that point did not know that the race was going to be re-run on the Monday. The jockeys went mental having starved themselves for days, most of them got pissed and ended up dancing on the tables and bars - some of them still in their gear!

Re: Everton's new stadium
I lived in Liverpool for four years and it's still my favourite major UK city outside of London.

Great place, treated badly by successive governments. Genuinely unique culture and atmosphere - unlike so many of our major monotonous towns and cities ruined by uninspiring councils and planning. Probably the most 'Irish' city in England and Wales, and has imported much of that culture.

It's a great weekend out on the sauce if you're young and on one. But has plenty of art, sport and museums to keep us middle-aged fogeys interested these days. Great Victorian architecture around the docks and university area. Some of the best pubs in Britain.

Does get a bitterly cold fucking wind though blowing a gale right through you off the Irish Sea, though.

If you go back Sold0, try Peter Kavanagh's. Another lovely pub. And the Vines next to the Adelphi is the twin pub to the Philharmonic though its not been looked after as well.

Why would I lie on here about what I experienced on a weekend in Liverpool 22 years ago? If it doesn't concur with your opinion on the European City of Culture 2008 fair enough mate, but don't call me a liar. I'm not here for that, I'm here primarily to kill a lot of time at work and LIKE YOU because I don't have a huge circle of friends. Just a few old mates who I see every once in a while. I am a middle aged cunt, love my mentalist missus and have a kid who has got more of a future than any fucking Hackney pickney.

Don't be a fucking knob Gav, I've been posting here for 18 years. Never bullshitted a story.

To be fair i'm with Gavvy here.... going to Anfield and Goodison and saying I've been out in Liverpool and calling it shit is the same as some Scousers coming to Upton Park and calling London shit... been a couple of times away from football and could not be more impressed... people were absolute top notch as well...

Re: Everton's new stadium
I visited in 1999 then returned in 2016...it has had a lick of paint and some TLC since my first visit - without a doubt

The Phillamonic pub was very run down but the amazing interior still shone through...ditto the Art-Deco Adelphi hotel for similar reasons. Liverpool Central train station was a bit rough at the time but there was another pub there with some amazing original leaded mirrors - none looked broken despite the location. They must have been proud of that one!

I ended up staying in a B&B quite nearby because a pretty stunning looking scouse bird who looked Russian to me worked at the train station and recommended it as a safe place where you got a legendary fry-up the following morning.

She wasn't wrong - there were coppers in there who stopped off for the night that were nursing their hangovers...all a bit Gene Hunt!

1997 my night out in Scouseland was as such

What upsets you the most?

Brexit?

Or the fact that at your age you're yet to have any offspring?

Are you firing blanks?

"Fucking zoo, a place full of 36 year old grandmas and people who think nothing of stealing a car to drive home if the taxi queue is a bit long"

Typical lie.

I was good mates with some Scousers when I lived in Hong Kong.

Went up there to see them.

Fucking zoo, a place full of 36 year old grandmas and people who think nothing of stealing a car to drive home if the taxi queue is a bit long.

Definitely not a dull moment on a weekend especially if you have the novelty value of not being a local but fuck living there it's a shithole full of thieving cunts

Re: Everton's new stadium
Its remarkable how many people think that liverpool is a horrible city. Euther theyve never been and are basing their idea on watching boys from the black stuff or theyve only been around anfield and goodison which is a shit hole but even then because liverpool bought a load of houses because they wanted to expand and lef them empty of years.

Anyone whis actually visited the plaxe properly knows it has some of rhe most impressive built environment in the country and is the best night you can have out lirerslly anywhere in britain.

Re: Everton's new stadium
I visited Liverpool 2 or 3 years ago and quite liked it...

I was surprised at how much of it still remains post-industrial wasteland though...also popped into Southport where all the posh scousers live...that was quaint but was all faded glamour...sort of a bit like Brighton before all the hippies made it trendy...

Have you ever stayed in one of Gavvy's properties though, Sold0? Got more bricks and mortar than Robbie Fowler apparently.
